A good arch provides a healthy foundation for your entire body. It ensures a sound healthy biomechanical chain for ankles, knee, lower back and spine. An abnormally flat arch can result in pain in arch, heel, ball of your foot. The achilles tendon can also become painful. If left untreated bunions, hammertoes, overlapping toes can occur. You will not grow out of the flat foot and the foot type is hereditary.
It is easily diagnosed on gait exam, biomechanical exam, x-ray, arthroscopy or ultrasound. We can use in office digital x-ray to help in the diagnosis and make a treatment plan.
Symptoms associated with flat feet can be treated with NSAIDS, injection, strapping. The most effective treatment to prevent symptoms and deformity and ensure return to activity and a healthy arch is a custom prescription orthotics (arch support).
