Is my bunion hereditary?

Yes, the foot type that causes you to have a bunion is hereditary and treatable.

Does my shoe cause hammertoes and bunions?

No, hammertoes and bunions are caused by pathomechanics, although shoe gear can aggravate the symptoms that can cause these problems. Simple orthotic control often times will resolve these issues.

What are some of the advances in wound care and do I have to go to a wound care center?

There are very exciting and effective advances in wound care including stem cells, biologics dressing, VAC therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Dr. Marchese is specially trained and is a fellow of the Academy of physicians in wound healing and provides the most state of the art wound care available. This can be provided in office, or if necessary, in hospital.

I'm overweight, is that the cause of my heel pain?

No, pathomechanics cause the abnormal pull of the planter fascier of the heel. Being overweight aggravates the symptoms but does not cause them.

Our pediatrician says that our child will grow out of their foot problem - Is that true?

It is not always true that your child will out grow their foot problems. A quick and easy in-office exam can often times lead to a treatment plan that will resolve these issues and prevent future disorders.

Is foot surgery painful?

Although pain is subjective, the pain associated with foot surgery is usually in that patient that had a complication. An uneventful post op course is usually pain free.

Can you get the root out of my calluses or corn so it does not return?

No, there is no root to a corn or callous. They are not soft tissue problems but grow in response to abnormal position of the bone

Is a wart contagious?

A wart is a virus that is spread by direct contact - so it can be contagious.

I heard the medication for nail fungus is harmful to your liver - Is that true?

Many medications including the medication we use for nail fungus is metabolized in the liver. If you have liver problems or are taking another medication metabolized in the liver caution should be exhibited in their use. However if you are healthy and not taking a medication metabolized in the liver, one "pulse dose" (1 week) or two can have dramatic results. Often times, oral medications are not even necessary with the use of topicals & laser therapy.

Can you do anything about foot odor?

Yes, foot odor is caused when bacteria breaks down the components that make up sweat. Stopping the sweat with topical medications has a dramatic and often quick result

My feet itch, burn or scale - What's causing this?

The most common cause of itchy, burning feet is a fungus infection. Other causes are dermatitis, eczema and some systemic diseases. This is easily treated with topical medications. If it is left untreated it will become severe or a bacteria infection can develop.

I have an ulcer, do I need a wound care center?

There are several reasons a wound does not heal. A thorough evaluation of the wound, your overall health and circulation assessment can be performed in the office. With the proper care and a team approach we have excellent success with ulcer closure. Several new products available have been very successful..

Can laser be used to cure my bunion?

Laser therapy is indicated for many soft tissue diseases such as warts, fungal nails, skin lesions but it is not used to cut bone.

Is laser therapy helpful for fungal nails?

Laser therapy is a good adjunct to treating nails that are infected. This is done in-office
