Understanding the Anatomy of the Foot

The foot consists of 26 bones, 120 ligaments, 33 joints and 20 separate muscles which work together to control the movement of its individual parts.  The foot contains almost one quarter of the body's bones.

The complex construction of the feet enables them to absorb close to 100 tons of force per day.  Our feet support our body weight and each day they are exposed to grueling punishments in the form of poor fitting shoes, sports injuries, occupational traumas or the stress of walking on hard surfaces.

Many systemic illnesses including but not limited to diabetes, arthritis, circulation problems manifest with symptoms in the feet. It is no wonder that when our feet have been overworked or treated badly or you suffer from a medical condition, they are vulnerable to damage and disease..
